Misleading Quotes

Quoting out of context, abstraction, accent – subtypes of ambiguity

Quoting out of context is a typical creationist ploy on websites and Usenet groups. Short fallacious quotes that change their meaning when shortened and quoted out of context are used within straw man fallacies and fallacious appeals to authority.

To illustrate this point – what might the color-altered, out-of-context image at left be? Click on the letter that you think indicates the correct choice:

a. an aerial view of Zabriskie Point in California's Death Valley

b. a close-up of the skin of an elephant

c. an aerial view of Twenty Mule Team Canyon in Death Valley

d. a satellite image of a field of sand dunes.

e. none of the above.
